Dota 2 First Impressions

Came back from class around 430pm and I saw Dota 2 Beta invitation in my email inbox. That's quite a surprise! I never thought I would get it at the first place. Of course I straight away fired up the Steam client which is never used by me before and start downloading the beta. It's about 3.5GB of files and it took me about an hour to get it done. Sure then I launched the game and anticipating for a new Dota experience! Here is my impressions:

  • Still need to wait for games (maybe because not much players yet)
  • Some player take really long time to load, if anyone fail, straight away rematch
  • Gameplay is good similar to HON but the items and heros are much easier to recognize
  • Heros and their skills basically have no different with the old Dota
  • If someone DC, he got the chance to reconnect in 5 minutes, after that if he is not back, others can leave
  • Still see leavers. AAA is killed. AAA left the game.
  • Gameplay is nice, I can get into situation real soon.
  • Only problem is the items and shops got rearrangement, need sometime to get use to
Unfortunately, graphic wise I cannot give any comment. My laptop was able to run the game lobby at 1280x720 without lag, but when it goes into the game itself, I still feel lags here and there even when I set everything off and low at 800x600.

Overall really a nice rework for the old Warcraft III based Dota. Just hope my next computer can run it at relatively high settings and it won't be expensive to play.

The lobby interface. Looks good and intuituvely easy to use

My first game stats. Randomed Ursa and 3 leavers.
